gorey_mystery
i’ve really been on an edward gorey kick lately. again. one can never have too much gorey; he is timeless. my last amazon order consisted of all gorey – i even got the doubtful guest 2010 calendar, and my god, i despise calendars.  people have them pinned up above their desks and make x’s to count down the days until vacation and they all have pictures like the one with the “hang in there!” kitten.  calendars are usually depressing items – all deadlines and scrambling and wishing for more time.

unless they’re illustrated by edward gorey.

my love for gorey started young. parked in front of the television at age 4 or 5-ish, watching pbs’ – one of the only channels we got waaaay back when i had to walk through the snow both ways and hey you kids get off my lawn – masterpiece/mystery theater. the opening credits fascinated me – the gentleman playing croquet in the rain, the mysterious woman inexplicably waving her handkerchief from on top a stone castle…

oh, i know everyone loves edward gorey. in some circles, it’s sort of like loving milan kundera.

but gorey gave me my tiny little fledgling bat wings. (nowadays, i pretty much keep them hidden.)

thank you!
